Regular disinfection of cages for rabbits is necessary in order to maintain a healthy population. These animals are prone to various diseases, including deadly ones. Many viruses and bacteria, if they did not enter their bodies, can exist on surfaces. Microbes can be eliminated with the help of various chemical agents. We will tell you what preparations can be used, how to do it correctly and how often rabbit dwellings should be cleaned.
Rabbits living on farms need cleanliness, otherwise they quickly become ill, which often leads to death of the livestock. By disinfecting for prophylaxis, many troubles can be avoided. Such pathologies as salmonellosis, staphylococcus, dermatomycosis, listeriosis are especially dangerous. If a case of any of these diseases has occurred, then everything must be disinfected carefully.
It is necessary to take into account that bacteria and microbes can sometimes survive even after exposure to aggressive substances, and in a favorable environment, the methods of reproduction with double force. Particularly insidious are microorganisms that inhabit the cell walls, bedding, nets and other equipment.
Therefore, a simple decontamination is not always effective, and even not all chemicals can help. Microbes can trap rabbits on any household items, so sometimes you need to use cardinal means of disinfection. This is the only way to save livestock from dangerous diseases.
It is advisable to treat cells for rabbits for preventive purposes 2 times a year (ideally, in spring and autumn). At least on professional farms they do it this way. Disinfection is carried out also in the event that there is a transfer of young animals, okol females or one of the animals got sick (also during epidemics).
It is necessary to process not only the cells, but also the whole room where they stand, and all the equipment for care. Particular attention is paid to the dwellings where there are little rabbits with cubs, because the young are very vulnerable.
At the same time, separate feeders and drinkers should be disinfected for prophylaxis once a week, equipment once a fortnight, the whole room once a year.
First – cleaning
Disinfection of rabbit cells is carried out only after cleaning and cleansing from dirt, litter and other debris. It is necessary to remove the litter or the fact that he left it in the process of life. Such manipulations destroy up to 40% of various microbes.
To remove particularly strong contaminants, soak these places with hot water (70 degrees) for otkisaniya. Also for this, apply a 1.5% solution of soda ash.
For cleaning the cells and premises use brushes, brooms, shovels, buckets, scrapers, garbage bags, hose with supplied water, gloves. When the cleaning is complete, a device for spraying chemicals will come in handy.
Disinfect the surfaces of rabbits at home at home with such drugs as:
- “Domestos” or “Whiteness”, diluted with water (applied to the surface and washed off with water after 1 hour);
- 40% formaldehyde solution (10 ml per 1 cubic meter, applied to surfaces at a humidity of 60% and a temperature of +15 degrees for 15 minutes);
- iodine solution (25 ml per 1 l of water, applied 1-2 times, can be aged from 1 to 5 hours if there is an infection);
- strong solution of potassium permanganate;
- 10% bleach solution (applied to the surface for half an hour);
- hot ash lye (can be used after chemicals, because it removes their residues and is safe for rabbits);
- caustic soda 2% or caustic soda (2 liters per 1 sq. m.).
Of the finished products fit such as "Ecocide C", "Creolin", "Virosan", "Glutex", "Virkon S". Not bad copes with the disinfection of the fire, which burn the surface, including wood. And objects made of glass and ceramics can be boiled.
Wash hands and face thoroughly after the procedures and work with chemicals.
Before you begin treatment with potent substances, you need to remove all rabbits to places of temporary detention.
All work must be done in gloves to secure. From the cells you need to remove all items that are not screwed or nailed to surfaces. Litter carefully, using scrapers should be collected in the package. So it is easier to recycle.
During these manipulations, the cage must be checked for damage and various damage. If necessary, worn parts are replaced immediately. Next, you need to scrub with a brush all the remaining dirt, especially that which has been doused with boiling water for otkisaniya. Rinse the cage with plain water to remove residual dirt.
When the surface impurities are removed, special devices (spray guns) will help to apply disinfectants to the surface. If the temperature is above zero, then they are sprayed, and if the temperature is below zero, then the jet must be beating. For the irrigation procedure, 40% formaldehyde, caustic soda, bleach and iodine solution are suitable. The last two can be applied to the surface, walls and ceiling of the cell with a brush.
If a nebulizer is used, it is advisable to wear a respirator.
After the cells have been disinfected, they are washed with water. All chemicals should be washed away. Structures need to be dried, preferably on the street.
All equipment, drinkers, feeders also undergo disinfection treatment. If possible, they should be boiled. Apply a solution of soda ash, in which you can soak household items for 30 minutes. Be sure to wash in clean water.
The best way to remove germs is a combination. When used treatment with any chemical means and fire. Of course, you can only disinfect surfaces with a flame. This option is the most budget, and very effective. In addition to various bacteria and viruses, harmful larvae, fungi and other microorganisms die. The simplicity is that after that you don’t need to rinse your inventory and cages with water, and then dry it all.
Wooden parts of rabbit property and parts of the cells can be safely burned. The impact of the flame is not long and therefore objects will not have time to burn. This procedure gives a dark shade of wood. All flammable items must be removed.
Disinfection with fire can be done with a blowtorch or a gas torch. Prior to this, the above procedure is carried out to cleanse the cells of dirt and remove litter. The flame goes to the surface and acts on them for about two minutes. It is advisable to do this evenly. After that, you need to wait for complete cooling, then equip the cage with everything you need and let the rabbits in.
Safe for rabbits
All that the rabbit cells are disinfected with is dangerous for the animals, therefore after treatment it is necessary to rinse with water. However, ash liquor is a tool that copes with pathogens, is safe for rabbits, and even neutralizes chlorine.
Ash liquor prepared from wood ash. It is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 3. The resulting solution must be boiled for an hour. Next, filter the slurry and the mixture is again brought to a boil. The result is lye. It is transparent and has almost no color, only a slightly yellowish tint. To the touch this tool can be called soapy.
It is necessary to use lye while it is hot. It is applied with improvised objects, for example, a brush on all surfaces. Rinse off with water is not necessary, as there will be no harm for rabbits. Feeders and drinkers can also be washed with this tool. If decontamination occurred earlier with the help of chlorinated agents, then lye helps to remove their residues.
If a serious disease of individuals was found in the rabbitry, then after the start of quarantine, it is necessary to disinfect the cells and the room where they are located. All these manipulations are carried out, if there was a loss of livestock. Means for disinfection are selected depending on the identified diagnosis.
If a case of salmonellosis has been detected, then a formaldehyde solution of 2% or a slaked lime of 20% will help to get rid of re-infection. At 1 cu. m of solid surface requires 1 liter of any of these solutions. It is necessary to process with an interval in 5 days until the moment when the infection will be destroyed.
Not less dangerous staphylococcus will not stand from 4% formaldehyde. If it will be used by the aerosol method, then 25% concentrate is needed, which after application is washed off with water after 3 hours. There is also another disinfectant "Chloramine." It fights many dangerous pathogens. Any of these funds should be dispensed at 20 ml per 1 cu. m
The fight against pasteurellosis is carried out with the help of slaked lime 20%, 0.5% formaldehyde, chlorine 2% solution. Any of these is applied every 7 days. Against coccidiosis, treatment with iodine monochloride will help (hot 10% solution) every 4 days.
Formaldehyde 2% at the same time as caustic soda 1% every 10 days will help to cope with ringworm. And myxomatosis is destroyed by burning with fire or from the same caustic soda, but 3%, every 5 days.
From listeriosa infection will help hot soda ash 16% or formaldehyde solution 20%. Any of these drugs is applied at intervals of 10 days.
Depending on the identified disease, the procedure is as follows: healthy rabbits are isolated, and quarantine is declared. Begin the procedure for disinfection of premises by any of the appropriate means.
All this happens until the moment when the samples for the presence of bacteria give a negative result, and when the quarantine period expires. It is removed, but it is necessary to carry out a control disinfecting procedure by the same means that was originally.
After that, all surfaces, cells, feeders, drinkers, equipment are washed with hot water, soda ash 2% or iodine solution 5%. Then everything is thoroughly dried, and only after that the rabbits can be there.
