Each rabbit breeder can make himself do-it-yourself rabbit cages having drawings.
Movement „We do it ourselves" more and more enters our lives. Figures 1 through 6 show diagrams and drawings of various types of cages that can be widely used by rabbit breeders. Depending on the conditions and possibilities, they may undergo a number of changes.
The main thing that the rabbit binder must follow is that the cage meets the basic requirements of the breed and the category of rabbits he grows. Compliance with these requirements creates the conditions for the successful breeding of rabbits with the lowest expenditure of labor and the most economical consumption of feed.
The photo (drawing) №1 shows wooden rabbit cages, for keeping rabbits and young stockings.
The cross-section and longitudinal section on four meters with the specified dimensions make it possible for the breeders to correctly manufacture the corresponding cage. These cells are installed on a wooden or stone base at 70-80 cm from the surface of the earth.
Paul do their own hands from the boards. The thickness of the board is 1.5-2 centimeters, the latter fit tightly to each other. To facilitate cleaning, the floor should be made with a slope of 7-8 centimeters to the front or back side, covered with sheet metal or oilcloth.
With double-decker cells (or more), flooring with sheet iron is mandatory. This will prevent the cells of the lower floors from being contaminated by feces and urine from the cells of the upper floors. On the hygienic side, a movable wooden pallet must be placed on the floor without tilting.
On the front side of the cage, the door and the combined feeder for green, succulent and herbal feeds are fixed.
In practice, as indicated in the drawing below, between two do-it-yourself cages a feeder for coarse and grass feed is used, which is used by rabbits of two neighboring cages (photo (drawing) No. 2).
When growing rabbits in the open air, the roof of the top row of cages should always go 50-60 centimeters forward in the form of a visor. It protects rabbits from strong sun, rain, snow, as well as wooden parts bends. A peak measuring 25 cm is needed from the back of the upper row of cells for the same purpose.
In rabbit-breeding practice, especially in private farms, brick or stone cages are becoming more widely used, the drawings of which we will prepare later. They do not require a deficient material of wood, used brick, stone, etc.
When building these cages, it is necessary to accurately observe the dimensions indicated on the drawings and descriptions of the respective breeds, and the categories of rabbits that will be contained in them.
DIY cells installed on stone or brick columns 60-80 cm in height from the ground. It is economically feasible to build stone and brick cells in two floors. The floor is made of planks or concrete with its own hands, and a pallet of wood is installed on it, both in wooden and in brick cells, the width (depth) of which should not be more than 60-80 centimeters so that it is easy to maintain and, if necessary, catch the rabbit. In the double-decker cells between the grid and the floor on the side of the slope, they attach a lid with their own hands, which they lower in bad weather. On the front wall of the brick cells have a door and a feeder.
The USSR Institute of Animal Farming and Rabbit Breeding has constructed double single-storey cages of wood with a nesting compartment. These cells are widely spread in the personal farms of collective farmers and can be made by our own rabbit breeders.
In the partition dividing the cell at a distance of 30-40 cm from the outer wall, there is a nest separated from the rest of the cell.
In the front wall with their own hands, there is a manhole 10–12 centimeters high from the floor, 17 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters high. The nest compartment can not block the entire height, but only 300 mm from the floor. In this way, an attic is formed above it, in which the bunny rests.
The floor of the nest is dense, from smooth boards, and in the rest of the cage. from the metal gauze or laths from a tree. On the front wall of the cage they hang four doors with their own hands: two solid wooden boards that lead to the maternity ward, and two reticulated cages for the rest of the cell.
Hungarian rabbit breeders also use cages that they have modified to prevent the stress factor during jigging of rabbits. Nests are not made in these cells, and drawers are used. Between the two adjacent cells with their own hands is the separation with the same size as the nest, but with two holes. in one and in another cell. Lazy are 8/8 cm, so mother rabbit cannot get into this compartment. In the department of rabbits freely enter and exit. It has a feeding trough and a drinking bowl and they can feed there. Thus, the little rabbit gradually become accustomed to the new environment, and there is no stress during the jigging of the stress state. This way of growing is close to natural conditions, and the bunnies are calmer and feed their bunnies better.
In practice it is widely possible to use group cages for otklashennykh rabbits. They come in different types. Particularly suitable group cells with courtyards using mesh.
They represent a wooden or metal structure covered with a metal grid with openings 2.5 x 2.5 centimeters. The grid on the floor of the courtyards should be with openings of 1.8×1.8 cm.
It is necessary to observe the dimensions of the holes in the cage especially accurately. In this regard errors are most often made. With large sizes, the rabbit holes go, fall, break legs. The sizes of designs of this type of cells can be very different. In practice, cells of 2000 mm long, 1000 mm wide and 600 m high well proved to be well.
On one of the long sides a wooden shelter is arranged with their own hands, in which the rabbits hide in the rain, wind, strong sun and snow. The shelter has the following dimensions: length 200 cm, width 70 cm, height of the front wall 500 mm, and the rear one 600 mm. With the help of partitions, the shelter is divided into two or four branches. It is connected with courtyards through the manholes in each compartment. The roof of the shelter is wooden, movably fixed with the help of hinges. The cells are mounted on posts, 80 cm high from the ground. Since the floor of the courtyards and shelters is reticular, the secretions fall to the ground and this warns to some extent the disease of coccidiosis rabbits.
We use a three-story box battery for keeping rabbits in individual farms. The battery box consists of four vertical posts connected by three wooden floors and three wooden roofs. The walls are fenced with a grid, fixed with the help of valves to the racks. Under the latticed part of the floor there are three inclined lei of galvanized sheet iron to collect emissions.
The design is designed so that some of its parts, depending on the conditions and necessity, can be made of different materials.
With a greater distance, very often the legs of the rabbits fall between the slats and this leads to fractures, and if this distance is less, the discharge does not fall to the ground, but lingers on the floor and impairs the hygiene of the cage. Delayed secretions in the cage leads to the secondary infection of rabbits, as well as to the high cost of labor to maintain cleanliness.
