Rabbit Cage Mesh

When equipping rabbitries, an important point is the correct mesh. The size of the cells, material, welding or weaving – all this affects the quality of the grid for the cells of the rabbits. Given the fact that it consists of about half (at least – a third) of the entire cage, it is easy to understand how important it is to choose a high-quality and suitable mesh for the design that will meet all the requirements when assembling the rabbit rabbit.

The need for it in the design of the rabbit is determined by the fact that, when keeping rabbits, it is important to provide high-quality ventilation of the cells, which, during the heat wave, will prevent the occurrence of many diseases. The latter are often associated with overheating or unsanitary conditions of detention. Colds for rabbits are not so terrible, but the heat can be a serious problem, in the absence of a quality mesh. However, the presence of low-quality mesh can lead to the fact that the rabbits will injure the legs or those frozen to the metal during the cold weather.

Choosing the right mesh

Now the question of what kind of mesh is needed for rabbit cages. Galvanized metal is considered the best option among most rabbit breeders. Its main advantage is durability, and this is rarely characteristic of many other varieties. The reason for this is precisely the “galvanizedness” stated in the title, which leads to the fact that the mesh turns out to be much less susceptible to corrosion and rust, and this, in turn, increases the durability of the cell itself. Plus, rabbits can not nibble it, due to the small size of the cells, which also has a positive effect on the shelf life.

The approximate size of the grid cells, which is needed for rabbitks, is about 1.5-2 cm. Elongated variants are possible, with rectangular cells, but classical square is better. They have higher grid stability, it sags less, and it is less convenient for rabbits to try to nibble it. For the roof, you can take a grid with a large cell size, but for the floor and walls it is better to use the one that has small cells.

Well, about what kind of galvanized mesh is best suited for the needs of a rabbit breeder. That is the metal welded grid with hot galvanizing. It can be determined by the characteristic flows on the welds. It is this type among others that is distinguished by the greatest durability, due to the thickest layer of zinc, which saves the net from corrosion and rust.

It is also desirable to pay attention to the geometry of the cells. If the “bars” are crooked, some welding points are not fastened or detachments are visible, and the rods themselves are too thin (less than 2 mm) – the metal mesh is defective, and taking this will not only be a waste of money. When you install it on rabbitry, increases the chance of injury among rabbits, which is not needed in any way that will benefit the au pair. The same applies to the one whose cells are large.

Use when assembling a cage

To make a rabbit with a drawing, you can use different types of galvanized mesh for different parts of the structure. For example, it has already been said above that small-mesh welded galvanized steel is the best option for the floor. It does not sink, it is a little subject to rust and corrosion, and does not injure rabbits. Although it is needed only for sex, it is one of the most expensive options, and to use it everywhere is waste.

Normal welded galvanized wire is quite suitable for the walls. It is not as durable as hot-dip galvanized, but it does not have that load. And on the door you can start up and at all the usual woven mesh, just from a fairly good and strong wire.

Ceiling cells in the same way, if done net, can be made from a simple woven mesh. The only thing is that it is better not to make the roof only mesh, and slightly larger than the walls and floor. Neither the sun, nor the rain, nor the snow will benefit the animals, and it is better to make the roof with plywood, or to fix any roofing material, like slate, over the net.

The best option when you first select this part of the rabbit cage design is to make a purchase together with an experienced rabbit breeder who understands this and will point out all the points that need attention on this issue. If there is none, then you will have to turn to photos and videos with images of defective and high-quality grids in order to know how these or others differ from each other in size, design features, etc.

Of course, at a cost, theoretically, you can do this thing yourself. But, in practice, it is not such an easy task, even with a drawing, especially if you want to make real galvanized for the cell. This requires skills and equipment that are rarely in the "mere mortal". Also, you should not try to use plastic mesh when assembling a cage with your own hands. Rabbits her easily gnawed, and, as a result, harm their health. In addition, in this case, they can get out of the cage, which is no good at all.

The net itself in the construction should be used only in the front and side walls, on the door, and on the floor of the “walking part”. The bedroom or master bath should be either with a solid wooden floor, or with a rack. Both options are much warmer and safer than the grid, because they are used in the sleeping parts of the cell.
