The development of rabbits is influenced not only by the quality of the food they consume, but also by their housing, therefore it is necessary to create and constantly maintain good conditions for the existence of the animals. Cellular maintenance is the most optimal type of rabbit breeding. In a cage, you can competently take care of animals, feed them in portions, perform mating, treat when diseases occur, and later get excellent young animals and products at a high level.
Cells can be located both indoors, for example in a shed, and on the street. There are three types of rabbit cell breeding:
- Year-round cultivation in the room;
- Combined breeding (in the summer – on the street, in the winter – indoors);
- Year-round outdoor breeding.
It is believed that the placement of cells on the street is particularly favorable for rabbits, since this contributes to the appearance of high-quality thick hair in rabbits, the development of immunity to disease, as well as the improvement of the productive qualities of females.
Features of street cells
Street cages for rabbits, as it already becomes clear from the name, are located outdoors, that is, under the open sky. The advantage of placing on the street is a large unlimited area in which buildings can be located. This is especially convenient when the number of rabbits exceeds 100 individuals. Also, street cells are much easier to maintain and clean. Their construction uses durable and coarse materials. The designs themselves are fairly stable and reliable, it is necessary to protect rabbits from adverse weather conditions, as well as from the effects of other types of animals: dogs, cats, rats.
Cells can be located in several rows and no more than 3 tiers up. Over them, as a rule, a canopy is installed, so that neither direct sunlight nor precipitation can interfere with animals. To remove manure, it is sufficient to simply install an inclined roof over each cage, in which case everything will flow to the ground.
When year-round outdoor breeding of rabbits, it is important to take care of the creation of winter cages. Despite the fact that rabbits are able to withstand low temperatures, it is still necessary to take care of the insulation of their cages, especially if they are carried out in winter. The mother liquor must be warm and not windy, otherwise the offspring will most likely not be able to be preserved.
Winter facilities can be built using railway sleepers, as walls. They do not let the wind pass and eliminate the possibility of gnawing. Layers of hay are laid on the top shield, and then it is covered with slate. In order for the wind not to flow into the gaps between the sleepers, they can be poured with foam.
Usually, cells are insulated with abundant hay litters that need to be changed every four days. It is important to ensure that the hay is free from mold, as rabbits often eat litter. A few days before the expected okrol, you can put a medical heater in the mother liquor.
One of the structures of structures for adult rabbits is a block, which includes two cages. Uterine sections with a wooden floor are arranged on the sides of each cage, and the rest of the cage has a floor in the aft compartment either from wooden slats or from a metal grid. Such cells are 120 cm long and 65 cm wide. This design is the most widespread among all the others.
There is also a cell design like the Klenovo-Chegodaevo state farm. The length of such cells is 240 cm, and the width is 65 cm. The floor is wooden: solid or slatted. Drinking bowls, bowls are placed on the floor inside the cages. As the queen cells are used plug-in boxes. This design is used for outdoor rabbits.
There is another cell construction for street rabbits, it is two-tier and consists of four blocks. Each block contains 4 cells. In these cells it is possible to place 4-5 individuals of young animals. The doors and floor are made of galvanized mesh, and the stack is made of plastic film. The frame is sheathed with plywood.
Pros and cons of wooden cages
Very often, rabbit cages are made of wood. They are very convenient in construction, besides in the summer they protect the animal well from the heat, and in the winter from cold, but the tree also has significant drawbacks. Wooden cages are quite heavy, they are prone to rotting and absorb an unpleasant smell. Everything else they have to be updated periodically, as rabbits love to gnaw them.
They gnaw wooden elements because of the lack of mineral substances; this problem can be solved by adding chalk and various mineral premixes to the diet of the animal. Also, the gnawing of wood can be caused by the constant growth of the incisors of the rabbit, which it needs to wash. In this case, tin strips should be attached to all protruding wooden parts: partly to the frame, to the feeder, and to other parts. In order for a rabbit to sharpen its teeth, it is necessary to enclose branches in a cage.
If you plan to lay the floor of the tree, from above you should put lath flooring, this will keep dry and good sanitary conditions in the cage, which in turn will have a positive impact on the health of the animal.
You can also lay a metal grid on the floor of the cage in order to simplify the withdrawal of rabbit feces. It must meet special requirements. The optimal cell size is 16×48 and 18×48. In some cases, you can allow the size of 20×20. If the cells are larger, the legs of the rabbits can fail, and their attempts to free themselves will lead to injuries to the paws.
The construction of a two-tier cage was first realized by I.N. Mikhailov. It is a stand-frame, the upper and lower tier. If the structure is located on the street, then the roof is made of transparent or translucent materials. Thanks to such a mini-farm, even those who wish to spend only weekends can be engaged in breeding rabbits. The feeders in the cage are designed so that the feed, hay and root crops, covered in them, enough for an animal for a week, the same goes for water.
If we talk about cleaning the cage, then here everything is as convenient as possible for the breeders. Funnel mines provide waste disposal in a special sealed container, leaving no odors. So frequent cleaning will not be required either.
In this structure can contain up to 25 rabbits. Below – the female with a circle, above – the raised offspring. At the same time cells do not occupy a large amount of space. The area of a mini-shed of eight cells can be about 25 m2, taking into account a passage of 110 cm and a gap between cells of 70 cm.
Do I need to purchase industrial cells?
It is possible to answer this question in different ways, if the breeding of rabbits occurs only for their own needs, for the sake of a hobby, then the presence of industrial cells is certainly not necessary. But on a large farm, with a large number of rabbits, such cells are a must. The design of industrial cells is modular, it allows you to supplement it or, on the contrary, remove unnecessary elements. Another of the advantages is the possibility of an easy penetration of the rabbit breeder into the nesting compartment, which greatly facilitates the process of care.
It is not necessary to acquire industrial cages for rabbits, they can be built independently, having previously studied all the features that this construction should have. It is necessary to take into account that different categories of animals will live in different buildings: young animals, young rabbits with offspring, males. The main conditions of the cells are reliability, durability and ease of maintenance.
How to make a cage with your own hands?
Many novice breeders think about how to build their own cells. All this is quite possible, and below we will look at one of the ways to do this. Depending on whether the rabbits will be in the room or on the street, you can install cages suitable for them. If the location is already selected, then you can proceed to the selection of materials for construction.
For the walls usually choose plywood or thick boards. The wooden blocks are made supports and frame. A grid with small cells is laid on the floor so that urine and feces do not linger and at the same time the rabbit does not damage the foot. Finally, not too wide plastic or wooden slats are used for finishing. All materials for construction should be smooth and not contain irregularities that can cause harm to rabbits.
If it is decided to place the cells on the street, then it is necessary to install them on strong eighty centimeter bars, this will not only make it convenient to care for the cages, but also protect rabbits from extraneous animals. The roof is tiled, of course in the room there is no need in the roof. Drinking bowls and feeders are preferable to be placed outside the cages and retractable so that the rabbits do not contaminate them.
Now directly about the construction itself. The fact is that cages for rabbits are not just ordinary drawers with doors, they must be convenient, both for rabbits and for their owners, besides to be functional: to have feeding troughs, drinkers, queen birds, branches for excrement. In any case, you must first find the drawings of the appropriate type of cells, and only then proceed to construction.
Standard actions for building a cage for rabbits do it yourself:
- Frame assembly;
- Sheeting plywood or boards;
- Installation of the floor with a slope of 5 cm;
- Separation of the cell into two compartments: feed and nest (mother liquor), put the door leading to the nest compartment;
- Installing nurseries for hay, feeders, drinkers.
The size of the cell can be any, but not less than the following parameters:
- Height – 50 cm;
- Width – 70 cm;
- Length – 150 cm.
In order for the farm to function well and bring benefits, attention must be paid not only to the breed of rabbits, but also to the conditions under which they will be kept. Ensuring that animals live in comfortable conditions and the construction of cages is the first and most important task that must be accomplished. The quality of future products depends on this.
And a little about the secrets.
Have you ever experienced unbearable joint pain? And you know firsthand what it is:
- inability to move easily and comfortably;
- discomfort when climbing and descending stairs;
- unpleasant crunching, clicking not at will;
- pain during or after exercise;
- inflammation of the joints and swelling;
- unreasonable and sometimes unbearable aching pain in the joints.
And now answer the question: does it suit you? Is it possible to endure such pain? And how much money have you already "leaked" for ineffective treatment? Right. it’s time to stop this! Do you agree? That is why we decided to publish an exclusive, in which he revealed the secrets of getting rid of joint pain, arthritis and arthrosis.
